4 Helpful Back-to-School Tips for Parents
As summer winds down and the school bell gets ready to ring, parents everywhere are gearing up for a new academic year. The transition from carefree summer days to structured school routines can be both exciting and overwhelming. To help ease this shift, we’ve gathered four practical back-to-school tips designed to make the start of the year smoother for both parents and students.
Tip 1: Look Your Best, Feel Your Best
Your child’s physical appearance can have a large impact on their well-being. Whether it’s a new haircut or a color change, a small transformation can go a long way. Making a reservation with our team at Neroli Salon & Spa is a great first step when wishing to improve your student’s physical wellness before they return to school.
Cut & Finish
The Cut & Finish offers 15 minutes at the beginning of the service to ensure that you and your child can build a relationship with the hair designer and review what style you’re looking for. With a Cut & Finish, you’ll receive a customized shampoo, a conditioning scalp massage with a hot towel, and a cut & blow out with Aveda products. When making your reservation, remember to select the option Cut & Finish (8 and under) if your child is 8 years old or younger!
Barbering Cut & Finish
The Barbering Cut & Finish is similar to the Cut & Finish; however, this service is for those who wish to receive a tapered look. You’ll receive a shampoo, condition, and hot towel along with the haircut and final rinse to remove any excess hair.
35- Minute Signature Manicure
The 35-Minute Signature Manicure is an aromatic and conditioning full-service manicure. This service includes a stress-relieving hand and arm massage. Lastly, your service provider will lay a hot towel over your hands and arms that provides a deeper state of relaxation. When making your reservation, don’t forget to add Gel Polish to your service for a pop of color!
35-Minute Signature Pedicure
The 35- Minute Signature Pedicure is an aromatic and condition full-service pedicure. This service includes a stress relieving leg and feet massage that promotes relaxation. When making your reservation, don’t forget to add Gel Polish to your service for a pop of color!
Tip 2: Kick Back & Relax
Finding time for yourself can be difficult, especially for parents with younger children. Scheduling stress-free activities weeks in advance is a great way to improve not only your anxiety levels but your child’s as well.
Engaging in practices that promote relaxation often improves one’s mindset while improving bodily health as well. What better way to relax your mind, body, and soul than receiving a full body therapy service or massage here at Neroli Salon & Spa?
Marma Body Therapy 80 Minutes
The Marma Body Therapy service is an 80-minute ancient Indian practice that focuses on manipulating subtle energy (prana). This service supports the healing process with an abhyanga treatment that provides warm herbal oils to clear stress from the muscles, soft tissues, face, and vital points of the body (where physical and mental discomfort and disease can form). This service is specifically for people who are looking for stress relief and relief from nervous system ailments.
35- Minute Signature Massage
The 35-Minute- Signature Massage increases circulation, eliminates toxins, and reduces stress. By using the gliding and kneading stoke method, muscle tension is calmed and soothed. This massage is a customized experience that uses high-performance cremes, oils, and essential oil aromas. When specified with your massage therapists, you can also receive intensive work.
35-Minute-Deep Tissue Massage
The 35-Minute-Deep Tissue Massage uses lengthening, broadening, direct pressure, and separating strokes to release muscle tension. By applying pressure to the inner layers of muscles and connective tissue, it targets muscles that aren’t working properly.
50-Minute Youth Massage
The 50-Minute- Youth Massage is for ages 12-17. This massage uses manual manipulation of the muscles that help with physically demanding lifestyles and hobbies. The focus of this massage is to provide techniques that support physical exertion and activity. It’s perfect for pre- and post-activity (like school sports), as it helps increase range-in-motion and flexibility. This massage also promotes recovery and reduces soreness.
Parental written consent is required. Parental observation during the massage is suggested but not required.
Tip 3: Breathe In… Breath Out
Breathing is a subconscious habit that you do every day, but with certain breathing techniques, you can reduce your stress, better your sleep, increase energy levels, and increase your mind-body connection.
Not only will you benefit from breathing exercises, but so will the kids! For the best results, do these exercises 3 times a day; once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once right before you go to bed.
Diaphragmatic Breathing
This breathing technique is also known as belly breathing and can help you use your diaphragm correctly. This technique reduces stress and helps with health conditions such as eating disorders, constipation, high blood pressure, and migraine headaches.
Step 1: Lay on your back with your knees slightly bent. You can place a pillow under your knees and head for better support and comfort.
Step 2: Place one hand on your chest and one below your ribcage.
Step 3: Slowly inhale through your hand. Doing this should allow your hand to feel the pressure from your stomach.
Step 4: Press your lips together as you exhale through your mouth.
Breath Focus Technique
This breathing technique uses focus words to calm your nerves and control your breathing.
Step 1: Sit or lay down in a comfortable position.
Step 2: Recognize the rhythm of your breathing without changing its pace.
Step 3: Place one hand on your belly button and try to keep it as still as possible.
Step 4: Alternate between shallow and deep breaths.
Step 5: Let out a loud sigh after each exhale.
Step 6: While you do this begin to incorporate a word or phrase. “Inhale peace” … “exhale anxiety.”
Deep Breathing
This breathing technique helps ease shortness of breath, promotes relaxation, and improves sleep cycles.
Step 1: Sit or stand with your elbows drawn back slightly, allowing your chest to expand.
Step 2: Inhale through your nose.
Step 3: Hold your breath for 5 seconds
Step 4: Slowly exhale through your nose for 5 seconds.
Pro tip: Keep your mouth closed and do this exercise 3-5 times a day.
Tip 4: Preparation Defeats Anxiety
With a new school year approaching, nothing excites students more than a new backpack to show off to their friends or the coolest pencil pouch to hold all their necessities for a new school year. Instead of procrastinating getting the school supplies you may need, go to the store at least a month in advance.
Doing this limits any stressors you or your child may face. This also teaches your child not to procrastinate on their assignments during the school year. Establishing subtle routines and principles is an amazing way to limit anxiety during the school year and build strong characteristic traits.
Breaking the cycle of fun-filled summer nights can be difficult, however, implementing strategies and routines gradually during the summer can be your first step to a seamless transition from summer excitement to back-to-school anticipation.
