When many people think of a tropical getaway, the instantly think of the Caribbean or Mexico, and not Central America. Costa Rica has been gaining popularity over the last few years for its amazing jungle and beach adventures. With such a diverse amount of activities, beaches, and accommodations, there is something for everyone in Costa Rica.
There are 2 international airports in Costa Rica. One airport is in the centrally located and Capital city of San Jose, while the other is more north and nearer to most of the all-inclusive resorts in Liberia.
My husband and I decided that if Hawaii and Mexico had a baby, it would be Costa Rica. You have the amazing mountains and jungle lushness that everyone loves about Hawaii, but it is so much closer and less expensive! You also have a few all-inclusive resorts and Caribbean beaches like in Mexico.
Our family found a ton a great activities to keep busy, and many of them less expensive than at other locations. Zip-lining is the perfect example. In Hawaii, it is nothing to pay $150 + per person to zip line. In Costa Rica, we could easily find adventure parks offering zip lines for about $50 per person. We also found the food here to be very reasonable. At local joints called “sodas” we could eat like kings for as little as $5 per person. The wildlife here is amazing! We also saw a ton of different bird species, monkeys and sloths just to name a few.
One of our favorite experiences was visiting the thermal spas. There are several thermal spas located through-out the country. All of the volcanic activity in Costa Rica has made for excellent spa facilities and the perfect locations to relax. Costa Rica is also home to a lot of sport fishing. It is so popular, that I highly recommend booking a fishing trip in advance as they do book out months in advance.
