Le Vol d’Icare (The Flight of Icarus) is a rollercoaster at Parc Astérix,
themed around the Ancient Greek myth of Icarus and his terminal flight too close to the sun.
At Parc Astérix, visitors board a winged flying machine to follow in the footsteps of Icarus – but without
the risk of burning their wings.
The rollercoaster is from Zierer and is one of the only examples of their Hornet model to be constructed.
It provides an “interesting” experience, with the track mainly made up of helixes descending from
the large model sun at the top of the lift hill.
It’s not smooth either.
The pacing is pretty weird, with the two-car trains constantly speeding up and slowing down in an almost
infuriating manner.
There’s block brakes mid-ride which are overly harsh, jerking riders to a halt in their seats multiple times.
Vol d’Icare almost certainly should be a family coaster, but its a fairly dull and boring one.
The theme is clever, but the actual rollercoaster experience is more frustrating than fun.
