Monstropolis will come to life at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, complete with a suspended roller coaster.
Disney World’s first suspended coaster
It’s finally happening. Ever since “Monsters, Inc.” debuted in 2001, audiences have clamored for an attraction based on the film’s climactic “doors” chase sequence. Walt Disney Imagineering is developing that very attraction as a suspended roller coaster. The ride will be part of a “Monsters, Inc.” land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fla. based on Monstropolis, the city from the film.
Billy Crystal, the voice of Mike Wazowski, announced the news during the Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, Calif. on Aug. 10, 2024.
Zoom through Monsters, Inc.
Picking up after the events of Pixar Animation Studios’ beloved film, humans have now been invited to visit the world of “Monsters, Inc.” — and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly. But it’s not a true visit without the factory itself. You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs, and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door!

Where will the Monsters, Inc. coaster be located?
Disney did not mention where Monstropolis will specifically be located within Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Portions of the concept art seem to resemble the area currently known as Grand Avenue. Offerings in the nearby area include Muppet*Vision 3D, Star Tours, PizzeRizzo, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, and Baseline Taphouse.
